As part of the 2019 Festival of Chichester, we will be singing a concert filled with the music of praising and rejoicing through the ages. The concert will showcase some of the best festal music from the Renaissance to the 20th Century.

From Adrian Batten's spritely "O Sing Joyfully", composed in the 17th Century, to Arvo Pärt's contemplative "Magnificat" and Benjamin Britten's iconic "Rejoice in the Lamb", there will be something for everyone. The concert will also include music from Finzi, Mozart, Pitoni, and Purcell.

For Lent, we present a concert of music for Holy Week. The most important week in the Christian calendar (which includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday), over the centuries Holy Week has given rise to some of the most intense, beautiful, and contemplative music in the world.

Join us for an evening of beautiful music that can be enjoyed by all, including works by Bairstow, Rutter, and  Sanders.

A Babe is Born

Come and Sing: Fauré's Requiem

Programme:

Our concert for Christmas 2018 is a concert of two halves, opening with Haydn's majestic 'Missa Sancti Nicolai', composed for the Feast of St Nicholas in 1772. The choir will be accompanied by the Noviomagus String Ensemble. The second half is a mixture of festive carols and readings, including music by Holst, Matthias, and Richard Rodney Bennett. 

You will have the exciting chance to sing some classic carols along with the choir and instruments - suitable for the whole family.

Programme:

Gabriel Fauré's Requiem is a staple of the choral repertoire, performed and loved the world over. In this special workshop and performance, we come together as a community to commemorate those who fell during the Great War, as well as those who have fallen (and continue to fall) in armed conflicts around the world to this day.

This concert will be given in aid of St Wilfrid's Hospice.

 

All are invited to join the choir for this afternoon workshop led by their Director of Music, Jake Barlow, which will be followed by an informal performance in the evening.

A Royal Summer

An all-out celebration of two of England’s most loved composers, George Frederic Handel and Henry Purcell.

As part of the Festival of Chichester, the St Richard Singers perform masterpieces of the Baroque era in the form of Henry Purcell’s 'Come Ye Sons of Art' and G.F.Handel’s 'Coronation Anthems' - the perfect way to kick off the summer holidays! 

The choir will be joined by their in-house chamber orchestra, the Noviomagus Ensemble, and an exciting line-up of professional soloists.

We are delighted to be working with Baileys Artisan Gelato for this concert, as they will be selling a variety of seasonal gelato in the interval!

Hear My Prayer - A Concert of Music for Lent

Saturday 17th March 2018, 7.30pm

Programme:

Our first concert of the year is organised around the theme of Lent through the eyes of some of music's greatest masters. The music will include the famous Miserere mei, Deus by Gregorio Allegri, William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices, several motets by Henry Purcell, and J.S.Bach's masterpiece motet for double choir, Komm, Jesu, komm, which will be accompanied by a complete continuo ensemble.

The choir will be joined by guest artists Close Company, the group of professional adult singers from Chichester Cathedral Choir, who will be singing works by Thomas Tallis and William Byrd.

A Christmas Journey in Music and Readings

Programme:

Our first concert of the 2017-18 season is a seasonal concert of music and readings for Christmas. The music will include popular Christmas classics such as The Angel Gabriel, The Holly and The Ivy, Warlock's Bethlehem Down, and Darke's In the Bleak Midwinter, as well as works by Tallis, Mendelssohn, MacMillan, Rutter, and Joubert.

There will also be the chance to have a festive sing-along with some classic carols in the offering - there is a little something for everybody!
